Victor Osimhen, who won the 2023 African Player of the Year award and led Napoli to its first Scudetto since Diego Maradona in 1990. Following a disastrous title defence with Napoli, Osimhen pushed for a move during the summer, leading to him being excluded from the squad by Antonio Conte. After failed moves to Saudi Arabia and Chelsea, Osimhen now finds himself on loan at Galatasaray in Turkey.

Osimhen’s contributions in the Scudetto winning season were invaluable; he scored 26 goals in 32 league appearances, securing the Serie A Golden Boot and earning the 2023 African Player of the Year award.  Osimhen, who won the 2023 African Player of the Year award The following season and Napoli’s title defence did not live up to expectations to say the least with them finishing 10th. The team struggled to replicate the form that secured them the Scudetto, and Osimhen’s relationship with the club deteriorated, with several incidents making headlines. His efforts to secure a move, including interest from PSG, Saudi Arabia, and Chelsea, ultimately failed, exacerbating tensions and leading to his sidelining by Conte.

With his options dwindling and his relationship with Napoli fractured, Osimhen found a temporary solution in a loan move to Galatasaray. This transfer to the Turkish giants offers the 25-year-old striker a fresh start. At Galatasaray, Osimhen will have the opportunity to showcase his skills on a new stage and regain his form, which had been overshadowed by his tumultuous final months at Napoli.

Osimhen, before this loan move was loved by Napoli fans and hailed as a club hero. His stats and performances showed him as one of the best in the world, despite his fallout with Conte, Osimhen is still one of the best strikers in the world. Despite the quality of some Turkish teams such as Galatasaray a year out of one of Europe’s top leagues will be a blow for the Nigerians career.

The loan deal provides Osimhen a chance to revitalize his career and demonstrate his value for potential future moves. A successful stint at Galatasaray could reignite interest from top European clubs and potentially lead to a more permanent transfer. Furthermore, a strong performance could solidify his status as one of Europe’s top strikers.
