Matías Soulé is one of many promising young stars emerging from Juventus. After impressing on loan at Frosinone, the Argentinian has caught the eye of teams across Europe as a race to grab his signature has started to unfold.

Soulé was a bright spark in a poor Frosinone season, which saw them finish 18th and relegated to Serie B. The winger caught the eye with his raw skill, emerging as one of the most prolific and direct attackers in the league. Featuring 36 times, the 21-year-old netted 11 goals and recorded 3 assists. These 11 goals saw him achieve better numbers than wingers such as Federico Chiesa. While starting on the right, Soulé can often be found dropping into pockets or into the number 10 position to pick up passes and beat his man. His versatility across the front line is one of his greatest strengths and a key reason why he was such an integral part of Frosinone’s side.

Soulé’s best position is undoubtedly on the right wing, as this gives him the freedom to cut inside onto his stronger left foot. However, his ability to accelerate away and drop his shoulder also means that if he is shown wide, he can take on and beat his man- with 3.37 successful take-ons per 90. All one has to do is go on YouTube and type his name to find numerous videos showcasing his skill.

The young winger embodies the Argentinian flair we’ve seen over the years in wingers such as Ángel Di María. If Soulé continues on this trajectory, he can fill a gap on the Argentinian national team, specifically on the right wing. With both Di María and Messi, who have occupied the right wing position for years, aging, the upcoming Copa America is likely to be the pair’s last. Soulé rejected a bid from Saudi Arabia side Al Ittihad as well as rejecting an Italian call up, both these decisions came from Soulé’s desire to play for Argentina and he is already featuring in the u23s.

Soulé’s excellent season has not gone unnoticed, with Juventus set to offload Iling Jr to Aston Villa as part of a swap deal for Douglas Luiz. Soulé may also be on the move. However, Juventus appear poised to reject any offers below the €30-40 million valuation they’ve placed on him. Both Leicester and West Ham have met with Juventus to discuss a potential transfer, and it seems increasingly likely that we will see Soulé in the Premier League next season.

Nevertheless, Soulé could still choose to remain at Juventus, where increased playing time is likely under new manager Thiago Motta, offering Soulé a fantastic opportunity to develop under one of Europe’s most exciting managers. It would be the sensible choice to stay at Juventus and thrive there before taking a move away once he has developed more, the talent is there and his skill and flair is apparent- but Soulé’s development is far from complete.
